Glide approached PLUK Studio for help with strategy, brand identity a new cycling brand.
What is Glide Balance Bike Classes?
Glide Balance Bike Classes are the creation of lifelong cyclist and mountain bike nut, Brighton local, Russell James.
Born from Russell’s desire to pass on his decades of bike riding experience to the next generation of young riders, Glide Balance Bike Classes teaches kids to ride balance bikes, and inspires confidence in every young rider they coach.
The goal of Glide Balance Bike Classes is to ‘Make Britain Stabiliser Free’.

It was convenient using a local graphic design company as it meant we could visit their studio in the North Laine and meet the team face to face to discuss the strategy and development of our Glide. PLUK developed our logo design, brand and strategy by simply telling them we were setting up a balance bike business, developed a strategy and they did the rest. Astonishing!

The Glide Balance Bike Classes brand creation story
The brand required a broad visual and linguistic identity that would appeal to children and parents alike.
Inspired by the shapes, colours, and movement of the peloton you see in pro cycling road races, we developed a kid-friendly design that, through combinations of colour, pattern, animation, expressive typography and irregular shapes, enabled us to inject pace and energy into the brand.
As part of the strategy, it was vital that the visual language was accessible to everyone, and was neither over-active or sedentary in nature. We set out to create a brand that could complement any activity, from dog walking, to kickboxing.
The future of the Glide Balance Bike Classes brand
There’s a bigger story behind Glide Balance Bike Classes.
During Covid, Russell James lost his kids travel company business. He needed to pivot and do something new quickly, so he came up with the concept of Balance Bike Classes.
When we met him, he was pre-launch. He asked us to create a brand, and we did. It was only on seeing the branding and the brand concept that we created for Glide Balance Bikes that Russell was really motivated to make the brand successful.
Once we saw the branding, he went from 0 to a full-time income in just 3 months, which is pretty incredible by any standard.
Thanks to PLUK’s creative input and Russell’s drive for a true challenger brand, Glide Balance Bike Classes pedalled through a victorious first year in business.
Since the brand was launched, Glide Balance Bike Classes have gone from strength to strength. Class sizes have grown, children and grown-ups have been inspired to ride bikes, classes are being taught at new locations every week, and new offerings for merchandise and protective clothing have been developed. right now.
Glide are now teaching and inspiring children travelling across Sussex, on their mission to make Great Britain stabiliser free.
